PEOPLE START TO HEAL

THE MOMENT THEY

FEEL GENUINELY HEARD

ABOUT ME >>

My name's Sam Driscoll and I'm a fully qualified person-centred therapist, often referred to as a counsellor or psychotherapist. I work in East Sussex and the surrounding areas with counselling rooms located in Eastbourne.

I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy); therefore, I abide by their ethical code of conduct.

I specialise in providing relationships which inspire inner healing, personal development and empowerment; helping people to overcome a vast range of difficulties and concerns.

I have experience of working with people who have experienced mental health concerns, addiction issues, relational problems, traumatic events, bereavement, childhood abuse, domestic abuse and many other personal crises and experiential dilemmas that arise throughout life.

I care very deeply about the work I do, therefore, I offer the highest standards of professional emotional and psychological support.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM ME

Deciding to engage in therapy can be an overwhelming process, therefore, it may help if I let you know exactly what you can expect if you decide to work with me.

You can expect to be provided with a safe and confidential space to explore your inner world. Often in therapy, we share aspects of our selves and/or our lives which we have never shared with anyone else before. This can be scary and make us feel vulnerable, so it is important you know you can expect to be treated with warmth and kindness at all times.

Sometimes we share things that can make us feel an element of shame for whatever reason. This can make the idea of engaging in therapy feel somewhat overwhelming, so it is important to know you can expect to not be judged or criticised.

Many different people from many different walks of life seek out therapy for many different reasons. Everybody engages in a therapeutic relationship somewhat uniquely, so it is important to know that there is no ’right way’ to be in therapy, there is simply your way and that is always ok.

When you are engaged in therapy you can expect me to always try to see from and understand your point of view; I will always endeavour to see the world through your eyes.

You can expect me to be genuine, I will always be real with you and how I see your world. I will always offer any wonderings I may have in a sensitive and gentle way.

I will assume nothing and always respect the fact that you are the expert of your world. You can expect me to never overrule your point of view or tell you that you are wrong.

As a highly trained counsellor/psychotherapist you can expect me to utilise any internal resource available to me to help you achieve your desire for inner healing and personal growth.

You can expect a commitment from me to promote your wellbeing, to be trustworthy, to respect your right to self-govern and to always treat you fairly.

You can expect to experience a transformational process as you begin to integrate different aspects of who you are and how you experience your world.

You can expect to hold me to all of these expectations, and if for whatever reason you do not feel I maintain what is expected you can expect me to help you find another suitable therapist who is a better fit for you and your needs.

You can always expect the best levels of professional care from me.

THE THERAPEUTIC PROCESS

If you feel you may like to work with me the first step is to give me a call or send me an email where we can arrange for an introductory session to take place, which will be charged at 50% of my going rate.

I will then email/send you some paperwork including my assessment forms and therapeutic agreement. You then have the choice to read these and fill them out before or after your introductory session, giving you the opportunity to have more time available to have a discussion when we meet rather than going through paperwork.

Your introductory session gives us the chance to meet face to face, giving you the opportunity to get a sense of me and how I work and space for you to discuss anything that comes to mind. If you feel comfortable you can then fill out and sign the relevant paperwork before we next meet.

We will work on an open-ended basis unless you prefer to take a time-limited approach. I may review our therapeutic work together intermittently to get a sense of your therapeutic development so we can then identify when therapy is beginning to serve its purpose and then we can discuss when you would like to draw our therapeutic relationship to an end. You are also welcome to review our work together at any time.

Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have.

  • How do I contact you to book an appointment?

You are welcome to contact me either via phone or email which can both be found on my contacts page

  • What is an Introductory Session?

Introductory Sessions offer us a chance to meet for the first time, discuss working together and answer any questions you may have about therapy or myself. We can then explore what brings you to therapy, any expectations, hopes or fears you may have, and give us the opportunity to get a sense of one another. Introductory Sessions can be a bit different to therapy sessions; they are more an introduction to each other and a space for us to gather information that might be relevant from each other. Therefore, the cost of these sessions are charged at 50% of my usual rate.

  • How long are counselling sessions and how often do they take place?

Counselling sessions usually last 50 minutes, on a weekly basis. This is the most common length and frequency of counselling, however, there is always room to discuss this at our initial session or at any point during your therapy. Some people have requested to extend their sessions in the past and that has been perfectly ok, other clients prefer to see me once every 2 weeks. I try to be as responsive to your needs as possible.

  • How long does counselling take place for?

I offer open-ended therapy so there is no set limit to the number of sessions, some people will have for financial or timekeeping reasons, a set amount of availability for counselling. Others may simply reach a point where they feel they do not need therapy anymore and a natural end has been reached. Equally, it may be that a person stays in counselling for a considerable amount of time, as they feel they require this. So the amount of sessions is different for each person, depending on each person’s individual needs, desires and choice. Therefore I will review your therapeutic development regularly to give us a sense of how long our counselling journey will last.

  • What is your availability?

My availability is flexible and largely dependent on my caseload. I try to be as flexible as possible.

  • Where are you based?

I am based Online and in Central Eastbourne: 10 Station Parade, Eastbourne, BN21 1BE.
